"Neon Lights was an all round immersive and engaging creative journey" - The Business Times
The strange characters that inhabit Leeroy New’s Aliens of Manila universe on suits and helmets largely inspired by the ingenuity of urban poor Filipinos in repurposing and transforming discards and everyday commodities into well-crafted decor or objects with an alternative function.
New will share these strategies, which he employs in making his out-of-this-world costumes, via a live demo workshop where participants can assemble their own DIY sci-fi helmets and accessories they can parade during the festival.
Objective: to be able to share techniques in repurposing and transforming found and familiar objects into wearable ‘alien’ helmets or costumes to be installed within the workshop premises or worn/performed by participants as they go around the festival.
